University knowledge in Buddhist studies, I would like
University of HamburgMotivation letter for Master in Indology and Tibetology Dear Madam or Sir,With this letter I am applying for a position in Masters of Indolgy and Tibetology programme, offered at the University of Hamburg. I have been fortunate to get an opportunity to study in Buddhist classics in traditional Sherdra setting, under some of the most qualified Khenpos in Ngagyur Nyingma Institute (NNI). I learned lot in these years and moreover my current experience as a teacher after a decade long study has helped me gain deeper understanding about the teachings. However, over the years through my limited exposure to modern methodically oriented works of academics, I became acutely aware about the shortcomings of Shedra studies.
Therefore, in order to supplement my Shedra studies and further expand my knowledge in Buddhist studies, I would like to continue my studies in Tibetan studies in Germany.I worked as an editor in Rigdzod Editorial Committee for three years and as a translator in Padma Mani Translation Committee for two years before I graduated from the Institute. As a part of my role in the Rigdzod Editorial Committee, I edit the collected articles from the students, interact with people and get their interviews, keep updates about the important events and in turn produce insightful reports. I also translate the classical Tibetan into English for the Palyul Times publication.
During this role, I attended numerous programs and short courses. The purpose of which was to better my understanding in modern academic works, improve in language and literature. My responsibility and diligence were important to the role, however, it was clear that my progress was decelerated by my lack of knowledge and insight in these fields. With all of my experience listed, I am excited in upgrading my insight of Buddhist studies to the next level. The subjects offered in this program are very motivating and excites me more.
I would also get to experience divergent cultures and exchange knowledge. I am positive that the knowledge and skills learnt from my personal experience, Institute, and extracurricular activities would make me a valuable addition to the Masters of Indology and Tibetology offered at Hamburg University.Thank you in advance for considering my application,Regards
