The Effective HR Professional
– Introduce the CIPD Profession Map and explain how it is used by HR professionals and organisations.
The CIPD HR Profession Map is a pool of knowledge that is continually being updated by successful HR professionals at the various stages of their careers. Launched in 2009, the map is a place for organisations and all levels of HR professionals to use as a tool to continue professional development.
“The core of the Profession Map is the foundation of great HR capability regardless of role, location or stage of career.”
The 2 core professional areas of the Profession map are Leading HR and Insights, strategy and solutions. Professionals who are continuously striving to better themselves are active inside-led leaders who do not just observe and facilitate but drive and shape whatever they are tasked to do and ensure they own it. The professional must firstly focus on personal leadership by learning how to advise employees and managers based solely on their own point of view, then learn to lead others by working with colleagues to deliver great advice and build high performing teams. They must then focus on leading issues such as planning to manage performance, budgets and finances. To understand what the organisation needs in the present and in the future, the HR professional must use Insights gained from research and gathering context to tailor strategy and solutions.
The CIPD HR professional map is split into four bands of professional competence for the professional to have a clearer insight on what they need to do and how to do it.
