Kirk Mangus was raised in a family of craftsman that were part of the burgeoning American craft movement that had began to start to grow in the 1920’s and continued to grow even more after WWII. Kirk was influenced at an early age by his parents, their teachers, and their peers and altogether they created a rich community that included international artist and craftsmen. Kirk began to study at the Rhode island School of design, this is where he began to continue to develop his crafts.

After attending RISD he received his MFA from Washington State University Pullman, which greatly inspired him by the prominent “Bad Painting” aesthetics of artists such as Patrick Siler.
