Ayurveda: a boon to mankind

Around 5,000 years ago, India gifted the mankind a natural system of healing, Ayurveda, which is today recognized as a reliable and effective system of medicine worldwide. In the present scenario, adulterated and chemical laden foodstuffs as well as unhealthy way of life has taken a toll on everyone’s health. The three fundamental energies are movement, transformation, and structure. These primary forces are known as Vata (Wind), Pitta (Fire), and Kapha (Earth), on which the characteristics of our mind and body depend.
Vata dosha controls our breathing, the pulsation of the heart, sensory perception, muscle movement, communication, nerve impulses, and our capacity to experience joy. Excess of this dosha may lead to fear, anxiety, poor circulation, constipation, dry skin, cracking joints, emaciation, insomnia, tremors, and other abnormal movements.
Next is Pitta which oversees our appetite, digestion, absorption, assimilation, intelligence. This in excess, results into anger, inflammation, heartburn, loose stools, migraines, rashes, bleeding disorders, sharp hunger, and overactive metabolism.
Third is Kapha which governs nourishment, growth, fluid balance, fat regulation, stamina, memory, and more. Kapha dosha is responsible for heaviness in the mind and body, excessive sleep, depression, a sluggish metabolism, congestion, water retention, hardening of the arteries, and tumors.
Together vata, pitta, and kapha build our constitution at the time of conception and remain constant throughout our life. These doshas will adversely impact our health if they become imbalanced. All three doshas exists in every individual, but in different ratio. Therefore, by knowing your Ayurvedic constitution and your current state of balance, Ayurveda helps in attaining ideal health.
The system suggests some positive changes in our lifestyle, routines, diet, along with including Ayurvedic herbs, exercises, meditation, and natural procedures like oil massage and sweating for sound body and mind. Thus, Ayurveda, in a nutshell, is the balanced and dynamic integration between our environment, body, mind, and spirit.
